Next week, I’ll be heading to SXSW London. It’s the first time the iconic event lands on our home turf, and I couldn’t be more excited. For those who know me, you’ll already guess I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for this kind of thing. Creative energy, fresh ideas, conversations that spin off in unexpected directions, it’s all right up my street.

As the founder of a creative agency, I’ve learned that staying still is not an option. Our world shifts quickly. What worked last year might already be old news. The tools we use, the platforms we create for, the expectations of audiences, it’s all evolving. That’s why I make a point of putting myself in rooms with other creatives, marketers and curious minds as often as I can.

SXSW isn’t just a chance to sit in talks and take notes (though I do love a good scribble). It’s about real human connection. Swapping ideas over a coffee, sharing stories about what’s worked, what’s flopped, and what surprised us. There’s something special that happens when you get out from behind the desk and into a space that’s buzzing with people who are all there to learn and grow. It reminds you that none of us has this all figured out — and that’s a good thing.

For me, it’s also a bit of a reset button. Working in a creative industry means your output is only ever as strong as your input. If you’re not getting inspired, not feeding that part of your brain, then things can start to feel a bit… samey. It’s easy to fall into routines, especially when you’re busy, but events like this break that cycle. They inject fresh thinking straight into your bloodstream.

There are some brilliant sessions I’m especially looking forward to across the Creative tracks. A few that have really caught my eye:

  • The Future of Marketing 2030 – I’ve got a feeling this one will spark a few bold predictions and some serious food for thought.
  • Anatomy of a Founder – Always interesting to get behind the scenes of the creative decision-makers and the journeys that shape them.
  • The Brand, The Brand, The Brand – This couldn’t be more up my street. Deep dives into brand strategy? Yes please.
  • The New Design Partner: AI – This is the kind of talk that reminds us why staying curious is non-negotiable.
  • F1: Hitting the Accelerator – Fast-paced storytelling meets big brand thinking. Sounds like a winning combo.

Of course, there’s a practical side to all of this too. At DayOne, we’re always looking ahead. Part of our job is helping brands stay relevant, stay bold, and stay connected with their audiences. That means I’ve got to be doing the same. I want to bring back insights, ideas, and maybe even some new partnerships, that help keep our clients one step ahead of the curve.

So what am I hoping to get from the week? A few new sparks, definitely. Some inspiration that challenges how I think, a chance to chat with people who see the world a bit differently. And maybe a reminder of why we got into this game in the first place – because creativity at its core is about people, about stories. About solving problems in ways that feel a little bit magic.

If you’re going to be there too, let’s connect. I’ll be the one asking questions, scribbling notes and almost definitely talking too much. Let’s swap ideas, stories and maybe a pint or two.

Enjoy,

Anthony Thornley
