DayOne has started using Blender, a free and open source 3D creation suite. It supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline—modelling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, even video editing and game creation.

Blender says their mission is: ‘Get the world’s best 3D CG technology in the hands of artists as free/open source software.’

What can Blender do?

Blender is a versatile tool that handles all aspects of 3D creation. It allows you to design and modify 3D models, add movement and controls (rigging), and bring scenes to life through animation. It can also simulate smoke, water, and cloth, making the scenes look incredibly realistic. Additionally, it supports compositing which is where different visual elements are combined to create the final image and motion tracking which integrates 3D elements into video footage. Essentially, Blender is a comprehensive tool that helps create detailed and realistic animations or images, equipped with a variety of effects.

Why has DayOne started using this resource?

DayOne is using blender to create accurate 3D models of products for client projects. These models help in visualising print designs, digital layouts, and packaging concepts in a highly customised manner. Furthermore, by creating our own 3D mockups, we align closely with each brand’s unique style instead of relying on pre-made designs. This flexibility extends to animations, allowing us to present dynamic and tailored visual content that enhances our creative proposals.

What can Blender create for your business?

Blender can produce for you a whole range of cohesive professional looking product photography in order to showcase product packaging, models, print design and more. Blender allows us to create product renders to showcase our clients products in new creative ways which are not always possible in real life. This allows us to go beyond the limitations of traditional photography, presenting products in imaginary scenarios or or impossible to recreate physically
